The detail

You get managed WordPress hosting, an SSL certificate, daily backups kept somewhere separate from the server, uptime monitoring, a staging copy of your site to try changes on before they go live, and server security, patching and firewall as standard. We host the sites we build and a fair few we did not, and the difference is that when something goes wrong you already know who to ring and they already know your site.

Worth being precise about what hosting does and does not cover, because this is where most people get caught out. Hosting keeps the server secure: the machine your site sits on gets patched, firewalled and watched. It does not cover WordPress itself, meaning the core software, the plugins and the theme, which is where almost every hacked site we see gets in. Hosting looks after the building and maintenance looks after the locks, which is why most businesses take both.

Who this is for

You have a WordPress site and you want it somewhere fast, backed up and actually watched, with a person to ring rather than a ticket queue. You have been with a large budget host and found out what happens when something breaks, or you are launching a new site and would rather it lived somewhere it will be looked after.

When this is not the right answer

If you also want WordPress and its plugins kept updated, hosting alone does not do that and the Website Maintenance is the piece you are missing. Common questions

It is a private copy of your site where changes can be tried before they go anywhere near the live version. Anything that might break something gets tested there first, which is the difference between a problem nobody saw and a problem your customers found.

Somewhere separate from the server your site runs on, and taken every day. A backup sitting on the same machine as the site is not really a backup, because the most likely disaster takes both at once.

Anything wrong with the hosting itself: the site down, a certificate expired, a backup needing restoring, routing that has stopped working. Changes to the website itself, like new text or a new page, are a different job and that is the Care Plan.

Your site sits on our own server alongside others, which is right for most business websites and what we recommend to start with. If yours gets busy enough to need its own allocation we will tell you rather than letting it get slow and hoping you do not notice.
