Keeping the old host running is the detail that matters most. It means there is always somewhere to go back to, which is what turns a risky evening into a controlled one.
This is the job in this group with the most real risk attached, and it is priced accordingly rather than cheaply. A bad migration means a client's site is down and it is visibly our fault. It is also free when you take Hosting and Maintenance together, which is the honest answer for most people moving to us anyway.
