A proper check on whether everyone can actually use your website. Around one in five people has a condition that affects how they use a website, and if yours cannot be used by them, they leave without you ever knowing why.
You get a WCAG audit across your key pages, keyboard navigation tested, screen reader testing, colour contrast checked, and your forms and error messages checked, which is where problems concentrate. What comes back is a prioritised list of what to fix and what it would take.
The testing is done against how people actually use a site rather than only by an automated scan. Automated checkers catch some things and miss the ones that matter most: whether you can complete a form without a mouse, whether an error message is announced when it appears, whether the focus order makes sense. Those need a person going through it.
You want to know whether your site excludes people, either because it matters to you, because a customer has told you they struggled, or because a client or tender has asked. You would rather have a clear list of what to fix, in priority order, than a general sense that you should probably do something about it.
If you already know what is wrong and want it corrected, that is the Accessibility Fixes, and this only diagnoses. If your site is about to be rebuilt, wait and have accessibility built in from the start, because auditing something you are replacing is money spent twice.
