Reddit is organised into communities rather than interests inferred from behaviour, which means you can put an advert in front of people actively discussing a subject. For genuinely specialist products, particularly business to business and hobbyist markets, that is a level of relevance the broader platforms cannot match. The trade is that the audience is sceptical of advertising and unusually quick to say so in public.
One practical difference from the video platforms: Reddit runs largely on text and static images, so there is no monthly creative treadmill to feed. What matters more is tone. An advert that reads like marketing gets ignored or picked apart, and one that is straight about what it is does considerably better. Your customers research seriously before buying and already discuss the category online. You are comfortable with a platform where people will respond to your advert publicly.
If your product is general rather than specialist, there is no community to target and the platform loses its only real advantage. If you cannot handle blunt public feedback on your advertising, this is not a comfortable channel.
